Halloumi - A Taste of Greece
As promised… with a new week comes a new cuisine. The small
plates remain though 😊 This week, I’m reviewing Halloumi, a Greek tapas restaurant on Hope St.
The restaurant itself is in a lovely setting – fresh blues
and whites in a Greek Style with amazing tiles, mirrors and lots of exposed
brick. Cute fairy lights in the evening for a quaint and cosy feel too!
The menu covers all
bases.. from classic Greek meze dishes with meat or veg options to salads to
seafood to grilled meats to sides. We tried to vary our choices in order to
give a fair review.. (Apologies
for poor photos this week folks - blogging is made for the daylight it would
appear!)
We started with pitta and dips – taramasalata
& houmous…
Then two meat plates.. ‘Bresaola’ (lamb chops)
Delicious – straight off the grill with an amazing dressing.. & still on the bone so felt like authentic Greek dining
‘Stiffado’ (a beef
and shallot stew)
How exciting can a VERY small cold stew be…. Oh wait this was meant to be hot 👀 Flavoursome but disappointingly cold
Two seafood plates.. ‘King Prawns with
Chilli and Garlic’
Simple spicy garlicky prawns… a small dish but lots
of them! Plenty of spicy oil left to use as dipping sauce for the other dishes too
(if you are like us and waste nothing LOL)! Yum
‘Swordfish and King Prawn Souvlaki’
My favourite dish. Grilled swordfish and prawns on skewers with
a tangy dressing. Sparse but nonetheless delish ❤
Two cheese plates.. ‘Feta Tempura’
Basically a huge (and for a cheese lover this is
hard to admit) unappealing chunk of feta in some batter… Not great
‘Spanakopita’
Layers of goats cheese, spinach and filo pastry –
Yummier than it may look!
The bill came to £64… maybe (definitely) a little steep for
what we got. Verdict: delicious but
sparse. Tapas is tapas... but for the price per plate in here, maybe a little
more food would be reasonable
Nothing like a little check on 5pm.com to fill you with
regret – an offer for 5 plates + a bottle of prosecco for £40. Definitely the
smartest choice people as it is still worth a visit for amazing flavours but
not for the price tag!
